This festive arrangement of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina’s hymn tune Victory opens with a Handelian-style fanfare and includes four distinct settings to support congregational singing. The full scoring calls for 2 Trumpets, Horn in F, Trombone, Tuba, Timpani, Organ, and Soprano Descant. Additionally, both Trumpet parts have been prepared for C or B-flat instruments.

Practices for singing this hymn vary. In some traditions, the threefold “alleluia” antiphon is sung before and after each stanza; in others, it is sung only at the beginning and end. This arrangement accommodates either approach at the director’s discretion. Each antiphon and verse setting should be paired by number (e.g., “Refrain Setting 2” precedes “Verse Setting 2”), allowing internal refrains to be omitted as needed.

In addition to four paired verse and antiphon settings, a separate setting is provided for the final antiphon. The arranger recommends performing at least one verse without brass or timpani and encourages directors to match each setting thoughtfully to the text.

Your online purchase of this arrangement allows you to print the score and instrumental parts, and you may print as many copies of the descant as you need for your choir.
