This work is founded upon the text and melody of the Salve Regina. This motet strives to preserve the rhythmic authenticity of the original Gregorian melody while harmonically evoking the ethos of the text. The work begins plaintively, yet it builds to a climactic treatment of the chant melody in canon. Soprano and tenor soloists are given melodies derived from the Kyrie of Gregorian Mass IX, Cum Jubilo

N.B. This piece is one of four motets on the seasonal Marian antiphons for the Office of Compline. The other three motets represented in this series are Alma Redemptoris Mater, Ave Regina Caelorum, and Salve Regina. The setting of Alma Redemptoris Mater is published by Paraclete Press, whilst the other titles are published independently by the composer under the label of Suspirans Music.

This work is dedicated to fifth anniversary of the passing of George Halama as well as the twenty-fifth anniversary of the passing of Noel Halama, an elementary school classmate of the composer who earthly life ended at age ten.
